She was discovered at age twelve after winning the 2002 Korea-Japan Ultra Idol Duo Audition.

She managed to come out as the winner.

Long before her debut with SNSD, Sooyoung sent a fan-email to Kangfull, which he replied to because he was so impressed with the mature way Sooyoung spoke.

Sooyoung has no dance music in her mp3 player since she likes ballads so much.

On 12 February 2013, Sooyoung opened up that her father suffered from Retinitis Pigmentosa, a condition that causes degeneration in the eyes, and eventually results in total blindness.
